MESSIAH
Journal Entry: Mon Mar 22, 2004, 1:50 PM
I just finished uploading 15 of my MESSIAH sketches, and already I've got six comments on various pieces. Wow.
Anyway, of the fifteen entries, there are nine out of twelve Apostles, three out of twelve Zodiacans (technically four, since Leo and Libra are on the same page), one of Reishi and a bunch of minor characters, and two important characters. They are all REALLY big--the biggest is Nichirin at around 1.3 megs. Toyoki, Arisu, Reishi et al., and I think Shizuka are other biggies.
They are ALL original characters, i.e. characters I made up for my own story, which is called MESSIAH (but will eventually be re-titled when I remake it). The art is all old--precisely how old, I can't say, since it varies from page to page, but they're probably all at least three or four years old.
In MESSIAH (which is, for all intents and purposes, a mahou shoujo story--just twisted), the magic system is based on a system of twelve mystical gates called the Tur'ennyn (Elven for "Power Gates"). The twelve Tur'ennyn are divided into four subsections: going respectively, they are heart, mind, soul, and forbidden. I've forgotten the specific names of the tur'ennyn themselves, but I do remember the names of the Gate Demons that preside over them. If the system seems oddly similar in some places to Sailormoon...that's because MESSIAH was taken from a BSSM fanfic I'd written long ago.
HEART
Nar'annon (Fire Gate), male: presides over fire and electricity. Previously just fire.
Nen'annon (Water Gate), female: presides over fresh water (both hot and cool) and steam.
Orn'annon (Tree Gate), male: presides over plants of all kinds and bacteria. Previously presided over trees et al (thus "tree" gate, although it was really pretty much all plants) and electricity.
MIND
Khelek'annon (Ice Gate), female: presides over ice and virii. Previously just ice.
Sûl'annon (Wind Gate), male: presides over air and wind.
Eär'annon (Sea Gate), female: presides over the ocean and animals. Previously just the ocean, I think.
SOUL
Aure'annon (Sun Gate (or was it Light Gate?)), male: presides over the sun/stars in general and light.
Isil'annon (Moon Gate (or was it Dark Gate?)), female: presides over the moon/satellites and meteor-type things in general and darkness. Also gravity by proxy.
Kemen'annon (Earth Gate), male: presides over the earth/planets and soil in general, and...fungi, I think. Previously just earth and planets.
FORBIDDEN
Lin'annon (Song Gate), female: presides over music and creation. The reason why it's forbidden is that, with its power, one can open the doors to any of the nine previous gates (a normal person only has access to one tur'annon). Also, I think that the melodies et al that this tur'annon controls can in turn control the rhythms of life or something like that. It's been a while.
Kallistra, male: Not a Gate Demon (which are actually treated to be more angelic in nature in the series), but a human. Presides over time and space. The reasons why Kallistra's tur'annon is forbidden ought to be obvious just by what it presides over.
Dîn'annon (Silence Gate), female: presides over silence and destruction. The reason why it's forbidden is...um...uh... ....I forget why, actually. Presumably because, with its power, one can easily destroy entire planets. The "silence" part (aside from being blatantly ganked from Sailorsaturn) refers to the silence and stillness of when there is absolutely no life or anything. It does not, however, preside over oblivion. That honor goes to...
End Gate: Gul-ses, male. Gul-ses is a god named for a goddess. He presides over The End, over oblivion and ultimate destruction. Dîn'annon connects to him and his power, which is part of why her tur'annon is of the forbidden.
Beginning Gate: Janus, female. Janus is a goddess named for a god. She presides over The Beginning, over existense and ultimate creation. Lin'annon connects to her and her power, which is part of why her tur'annon is of the forbidden.
Eternity Gate: En Soph. That which links endings and beginnings together. Ongoing creation and destruction, never-ending, only circling infinitely. Mysteeeerious stuff. Okay, so technically, there were fifteen Tur'ennyn, but NOBODY is allowed to access power from these last three ones, and they exist above all the others anyway, so I don't really count them. Besides, they don't have Apostles or Zodiacans that correspond to them. ...Well, actually, I think Ophiuchus may correspond to the Eternity Gate, but whatever. S/he's not a proper Zodiacan, anyway.
AND NOW YOU KNOW. Refer to this guide when I talk about any given Apostle or Zodiacan's source of magic.
